Bicycle Patrol

Eight members of the Lower Providence Township Police Department have been certified by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) for police bicycle patrol. The department currently utilizes police patrol bicycles at special events, shopping center and apartment patrols and neighborhood patrols.

DUI Enforcement

The Lower Providence Township Police Department is a member of the Valley Forge Area DUI Task Force which is comprised of several area police departments that combine their efforts and resources in addressing the issue of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Controlled Substances. The Task Force conducts sobriety checkpoints and specific patrol details for DUI offenders.

Accident Reconstruction

Two members of the Lower Providence Township Police Department are certified accident reconstructionist's, and recognized as experts in the field. The reconstructionist is charged with determining the causation of all serious and fatal automobile accidents. The department was fortunate enough to receive a generous donation of a state-of-the-art laser measuring device for the measurement and computer aided diagramming of accident scenes.

Montgomery County SWAT Central Region Team 

Lower Providence Township is an active member of this regional team. This team is responsible for high-risk search / arrest warrants, hostage-taking situations, barricaded subjects, active shooters, and other incidents of a high-risk nature.

Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) Certified Officer

Throughout Pennsylvania, more than 700 specially trained state and local officers inspect commercial vehicles and their drivers for compliance with state and federal motor carrier safety regulations. Inspections are conducted along all roadways within the township. The goal of MCSAP is to reduce commercial motor-vehicle involved crashes, fatalities, and injuries through consistent, uniform, and effective commercial motor-vehicle programs. Lower Providence Police currently has one certified MCSAP Officer.

Montgomery County Drug Task Force

The Police Department participates in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Local Drug Task Force to investigate drug offenses within our own jurisdiction and throughout Montgomery County.  We currently have nine Police Officers who are assigned to the Drug Task Force and have been sworn in as Special County Detectives for the purpose of investigating drug offenses throughout the County.

Major Incident Response Team (MIRT)

MIRT is part of the Montgomery County Chiefs of Police Mutual Aid Plan and the Southeastern PA Counter Terrorism Task Force. Members assist with dignitary protection, civil disturbances, large events, disaster emergencies and homeland security situations in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Montgomery County Veterans Response Team (VRT)

The Montgomery County Veterans Response Team (VRT) is a specialized collaborative response team, created to assist agencies better support Veterans in need, or who may be experiencing a crisis.  The VRT is made up of several partnerships between law enforcement officers with military service experience, the Coatesville VA, local veteran’s service organizations, mental health crisis responders, Montgomery County Veterans Treatment Court, and social service groups. 

We encourage veterans in crisis, or those referring a veteran in crisis to call the Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 (Option 1) or the Mental Health Mobile Crisis Hotline that is available 24/7 at 1-855-634-4673.
