Why is recycling Important to our Township?

Recycling is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on the world in which we live. The Township not only wants to do the right thing, but is also awarded Recycling Performance Grants each year based on the tons of waste our residents and businesses keep out of landfills. This incentive helps pay for Township activities and is an easy way for residents to give back to the community. The more you recycle the larger the award the Township gets from the State.

Pennsylvania made recycling the law in July 1988 with Act 101, the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act, making Pennsylvania the largest state in the nation to require recycling. Curbside recycling is mandatory in municipalities with populations greater than 5,000, but many smaller communities have started programs voluntarily. Now, over 1,600 communities in PA are recycling!
