Congratulations to Our Community Award Recipients

Award winners with the Board of Supervisors

The Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors recognized the outstanding contributions of individuals and businesses as they presented the annual Community Awards.

The 2022 recipients are: Citizens of the Year, Alicia and Sean Cadogan; Volunteer of the Year, Jean Akers; and Business of the Year, Designed Treasures.

Citizens of the Year – Alicia and Sean Cadogan

Alicia and Sean Cadogan have been residents of Lower Providence Township for 12 years. While their work takes place behind the scenes, they are undoubtedly very instrumental in our community.

The Cadogans quietly, but effectively, donate to the Methacton School District and advocate for our students and the Lower Providence community.

Alicia and Sean continually volunteer their time freely. Simply put, they are givers - to the benefit of all.

Volunteer of the Year – Jean Akers

Jean served on the Township Parks and Recreation Board for the five years. She orchestrated and provided guidance as the Township completed its Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan in 2021. Jean’s expertise was crucial to completion of the plan, which will serve as an blueprint for the next 10 to 20 years.

Jean continues to volunteer her time, working with the Parks and Recreation Department to implement tree plantings throughout the township.

Business of the Year – Designed Treasurers

For almost 40 years, Designed Treasures has been a part of the Lower Providence community. The family-owned business is an outstanding model of the unique small businesses that are an integral part of the local economy. Started by Anna May Curran in her basement, the business became an official brick and mortar store the Park Ridge Shopping Center in 1984.

The  store has been a go-to destination for shoppers to discover distinctive gifts while enjoying a neighborly atmosphere. It’s obvious that the Designed Treasures team places a high value on customer service. Owners Anna May and daughter-in-law Brianna Walz have proven to be excellent corporate citizens as well, having partnered with the Township for its Caring and Sharing program and offering their store as a drop-off site for donations.
