Perkiomen Bridge Construction to Begin 6/3

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin Monday, June 3, to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Ridge Pike over Perkiomen Creek in Collegeville Borough and Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County.

PennDOT’s contractor will rehabilitate the structure over Perkiomen Creek by performing scour rock placement repairs; repairing the stone masonry; bridge arch cleaning and resealing; and concrete substructure repairs.

On Monday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Ridge Pike between Germantown Pike and Route 29 (1st Avenue) for concrete barrier installation. Once the flagging operations are complete, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Ridge Pike between Germantown Pike and Route 29 (1st Avenue) through late August for bridge construction.

Built in 1798 and reconstructed in 1985, the stone masonry arch bridge is 453 feet long, 39 feet wide and carries an average of 11,038 vehicles a day.

The bridge is one of nine structures in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,407,987 improvement project financed by Act 89, the state’s transportation plan.

Structure currently under construction include: Wissahickon Avenue over Monoshone Creek in Philadelphia.

Structures completed under this project include:

  • Baltimore Pike over Darby Creek in Clifton Heights and Lansdowne boroughs and Upper Darby Township, Delaware County;
  • State Road/Lansdowne Avenue over Cobbs Creek in Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, and the City of Philadelphia;
  • Hares Hill Road over French Creek in East Pikeland Township, Chester County;
  • Morwood Road culvert over a branch of Perkiomen Creek in Franconia Township, Montgomery County;
  • Route 232 (Second Street Pike) over a branch of Mill Creek in Wrightstown Township, Bucks County;
  • Sugan Road over Cuttalossa Creek in Solebury Township, Bucks County; and
  • Old Forty Foot Road over Branch of Skippack Creek in Lower Salford and Towamencin townships, Montgomery County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late summer 2019.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County is the general contractor on the bridge improvement project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
