Township Upgrading Traffic Signals with Grant Funding

Lower Providence Township is utilizing a PennDOT grant to upgrade traffic signals along Egypt Road with the goal of increasing safety and mobility. The $342,025 Green-Light-Go grant award will be used to implement automated traffic signal performance measures (ATSPMs) with fiber optic communication, controller upgrades, and detection upgrades at the three intersections.

ATSPMs consist of the addition of high-resolution data-logging capability to existing traffic signals and data analysis techniques. This provides information needed to proactively identify and correct deficiencies. Traffic signal maintenance and operations can then be managed to support safety, livability and mobility goals.

In addition to the implementation of the ATSPMs, the traffic signals will be connected to PennDOT’s Commonwealth network located along U.S. 422. The intersections included in the project are:

  • Egypt Road and Surry Lane
  • Egypt Road and Park Avenue/Pawlings Road
  • Egypt Road and Crawford Road

Currently, the Township is accepting proposals for transportation engineering services to complete the design of the traffic-signal improvements associated with the grant. The RFPs will be accepted through March 25, 2020.
