Trash/Recycling Billing Increase

Lower Providence Township logo

The Township’s 5-year contract that was awarded to J.P. Mascaro & Sons in 2014 included an option for two additional years, 2020 and 2021.  The contract was extended for these two years by Resolution No. 2019-18, incurring the increase. Previously, there has been no increase in the annual per-household price for 10 years. The Township recognizes that it was an oversight that an explanation was not provided prior to the increase taking affect. Per the agreement and Resolution No. 2019-18, the option year prices are as follows: 3/1/2020 – 2/28/2021 - $400.56, 3/1/2021 – 2/28/2022 - $424.56.

Prior to the decision to extend the contract, the Township surveyed other existing municipal trash/recycling costs. It was determined that Mascaro’s option year prices were more favorable than similar costs currently in the market. Additionally, extending the trash contract for the two years enabled the Township to avoid large recycling cost increases other municipalities are experiencing due to a very volatile recycling market.
